AERC Upcoming Workshops

To kick off 2020, Akwesasne Employment Resource Center (AERC) is rolling out workshops every Friday as part of the new Badge Program.

What is the Badge Program you ask?

A series of weekly workshops that revolve around employment development.

If a participant is eligible for funding and completes 8 out of the 12 workshops they will receive a $300 CAD stipend.


Below is a list of different workshops that AERC will be hosting as part of the Badge Program from January until March. Pre-registration is a must for all workshops.

Deadline for each workshop will be the Thursday before by 12:00pm.


January 10, 2020 – 10:00 am to Noon

Toastmaster Public Speaking Leadership Skills – Jason McDonald

Public speaking Leadership skills are imperative for success. Our public speaking workshop will help you gain confidence and prepare you for you next presentation.


January 17, 2020 – 10:00 am to Noon

Dealing with Difficult People – Lisa Jock

To break the chain of repeating unhealthy patterns from past generations, we need to learn to change our scripts of how to relate to each other. The attitudes of our society teach us to build walls of protection against an unsafe and uncaring world. While these walls may have seemed to protect us, they have also created a sense of isolation and deep sense of unhappiness or quiet desperation. We have forgotten how to relate to each other in ways which meet our deepest need — our need for connectedness and for giving and receiving unconditional love. Your soul purpose is to change those attitudes and beliefs which are harmful to yourself and others. Your soul purpose is to bring forth a new way of being with each other in this world. Your soul wants to create Spiritual Relationships which nurture and support the true purpose for which you both are here.

  • Recognize unconscious barriers that lead to conflict and division and learn to replace these thought patterns with new healing patterns.

  • Learn to develop the habit of seeing through criticism, anger and hostility to the wounded thinking behind it in yourself and your coworkers.

  • Practice and refine valuable ways of listening and talking to each other.

  • Learn how to be each other's best friend — how to create an atmosphere of safety and trust.

  • Learn healthy perspectives of giving and receiving.

  • Develop Confidence

Microsoft Boot Camp – Colleen Nolan

Participants will learn how to create professional documentations including formatting features, inserting images and document layout


February 7, 2020 – 9:00 am to Noon

Power Point Computer Skills – Colleen Nolan

Participant will learn how to create a powerful PowerPoint presentation including inserting slides, images and enhance the overall look of the presentation


February 14, 2020 – 10:00 am to Noon

Destressing – Healthy living in the work environment – Mary Terrance

Put your mental health first and listen to what you need. Destressing techniques!


February 21, 2020 – 8:00 am to 4:00

Standard First Aid/CPR/AED – National Safety Council for First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate Training – Adrian McDonald

First Aid: Acting in an Emergency, Preventing Disease Transmission, Check the victim, recover Position, Bleeding and Wound Care, Shock, burns, Bone, Joint and Muscle Injuries.

CPR/AED: Shock, Heart Attack/Angina, rescue Breathing, compressions, Automatic External Defibrillator, Chocking Responsive, Chocking Unresponsive


February 28, 2020 – 10:00 am to Noon

Soft Skills for Job Search and Employment Success |

An interactive workshop on soft skills such as communication skills, team building and collaborations skills, positive attitude, time management skills, adaptability, curiosity/lifelong

learners, problem solving, creativity and work ethic.

Customer Service 101 – It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it

Customer service skills are necessary in today’s workforce. Participants will learn about the basic customer service skills to build or enhance skills that will lead to supporting the needs of a future or current employer. Participants will also learn the difference between internal and external customers and why both are extremely important to professional development and career success.

The Career Planning Workshop is designed for people who are unclear about their career direction or thinking about making a change.

Interviewing techniques for job seekers and preparation for Speed Networking event.

Dress for Success, Elevator pitch and how to sell yourself.


March 31, 2020 – 5:00 – 9:00 PM – Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort

Speed Networking Event

An event for job seekers to connect with business professionals from in and around the community. It is a fun, exciting and effective way to meet with people in a social setting. Job seekers and business professionals will have approximately two minutes to deliver a networking script describing who they are and what they do.
