Youth Initiatives

Summer Employment Experience Development (SEED)

Program Description

Provides secondary and post-secondary students with work experience during summer break.

Student Eligibility

In addition to those previously mentioned in the Eligibility Requirements, participants

  • Must be 16 years old

  • Full-time students in the preceding academic year

  • Intend to return full-time in the next academic year

Employer Eligibility

  • Must also provide quality experience that prepares students for future labor market participation, supervision, learning and work experience.

Financial Assistance may include:

  • Wages of the participants up to the Ontario minimum wage level

  • Merc (NFPs)

Duration:

20-40 hours/week  •  Minimum: 6 weeks  •  Maximum: 18 weeks

College Prep & Life Skills

Program Description

Provides secondary students with 5-6 weeks of summer programming (academic, career, hands-on classes, and 30-40 hours of job shadowing).

Student Eligibility

In addition to those previously mentioned in the Eligibility Requirements, participants

  • Full-time students in the preceding academic year

  • Intend to return full-time in the next academic year

Employer Eligibility

  • Must provide quality experience that prepares students for future labor market participation, supervision, learning and work experience

Financial Assistance may include:

  • Bi-weekly stipends

Duration:

 5-6 weeks

 
 

Youth Workshops

Program Description

Provides career-based workshops to the youth including basic certification and information on career/educational opportunities.

Student Eligibility

In addition to those previously mentioned in the Eligibility Requirements, participants

  • Must be 14 years old or older

Duration:

 5-6 weeks

Employer Eligibility

To be eligible to apply as a sponsor if an ACESS project, an eligible organization or employer is defined as one that has been in existence and fully operational for at least six months as demonstrated by:

  • Registration with revenue Canada

  • Banking and Operations (payroll, administration, production, sales, etc)

  • Proof of Insurance Coverage (WSIB/CNESST Comprehensive General Liability) for participating clients for the duration of the funded activity at a level appropriate to the activities to be undertaken

An organization or employer that cannot meet these guidelines as determined by the Akwesasne Career & Employment Support Services may be directed to other ACESS programs or may use a Third-Party Sponsor.
